Our Team

Founder – Cody Craig, Phd

Originally from Longview, TX, Cody graduated in 2012 with his Bachelor of science degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Management from Texas Tech University, received his Master of science degree in 2015, and PhD from Texas State University. Cody has studied across the state and has authored and coauthored in many academic journal articles and scientific reports ranging from fish and mussel communities in the arid Delaware River basin, to the macroinvertabrate and fish communities of the lower Brazos, Colorado, and Guadalupe rivers.  He has worked on projects and created reports for clients in all major river basins for clients such as Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Comptroller, Edwards Aquifer Authority and more. Cody is committed to data driven science that has easily interpretable and unbiased results.

Jacob Ketchum, MS

Born and raised in San Antonio, Jacob graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor and Masters degree in aquatic biology. Jacob has experience with freshwater, estuarine, and terrestrial habitats. Jacob has specific expertise with freshwater mussel relocations, freshwater & estuarine fish relocations, wetland delineations, and endangered species surveys. While his Master’s thesis focused on the bioaccumulation and maternal transfer of mercury in sharks throughout the Northwestern Atlantic Ocean Jacob also worked as a commercial fisheries observer throughout the Gulf of Mexico after graduating from Texas State. With his combination of knowledge and experience in both the field and laboratory setting working on projects involving both freshwater and marine species, Jacob is committed to promoting environmental conservation and preservation through Arrowhead Ecology Group’s innovative environmental analysis techniques.

Taylor Guest, MS

Mr. Guest earned his B.S. in Natural Resources Management from Texas Tech University and M.S. in Coastal Sciences at University of Southern Mississippi. As a diversified environmental scientist, Mr. Guest brings ecological experience throughout the Gulf and South Atlantic, with experience in USACE Section 404 permitting for major linear energy clients, threatened and endangered species surveys, USFWS Section 7 and Section 10 Consultations, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, conducting wetland delineations and determinations in the Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plain and Great Plains Regions, water quality assessments, level I and TXRAM stream assessments, mitigation bank site efficacy assessments, storm water pollution prevention plans, and development of comprehensive technical reports for each respective assessment. Mr. Guest is a commercially certified FAA 14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot drone operator with  survey experience conducting biological monitoring of various pipeline construction processes, threatened and endangered species surveys, Migratory Bird Treaty Act related nest surveys, submerged aquatic vegetation and oyster community mapping and post hoc geographic information systems spatial analyses for developing impacts documents, floodplain inundation modeling for the Interstate Stream Commission and USACE Rio Grande floodplain habitat restoration project. Mr. Guest also has experience with automated drone mapping and photogrammetry software including Pix4D, Drone Deploy, and Litchi.

Zachary Mitchell, PhD

Originally from Paris, TX, Zachary graduated with a B.S. in Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Science from Mississippi State University in 2014, an M.S. in Biological Sciences with a concentration in fisheries management from Eastern Illinois University in 2016, and a Ph.D. in Aquatic Resources from Texas State University in 2020 with a focus in stream ecology and the conservation of native freshwater mussels. Zachary has experience studying a wide range of aquatic organisms (mussels, fish, macroinvertebrates) from various systems across the country, ranging from first order streams and small farm ponds to large rivers and reservoirs. Zachary has substantial experience working with native mussels throughout the state of Texas, including all state and federally listed species. Zachary has published multiple peer-reviewed papers that focus on the management and conservation of aquatic resources. Alex Sotola, PhD

From Voorheesville, New York, Alex graduated with a B.S. in Ecology from Plattsburgh State University in 2012, an M.S. in Biological Sciences from Eastern Illinois University in 2016 with a thesis focusing on catfish population genetics, and a Ph.D. from Texas State University in 2020 with a dissertation focusing on hybridization and biogeography of fishes, and a mussel mark-recapture study. From 2012-2014 Alex worked as a fisheries technician at the University of Vermont and USGS focusing on sea lamprey migration among other fisheries related topics. Because of these various positions, Alex has field work experiences in systems across the country ranging from the smallest streams and lakes to the largest rivers and lakes. Additionally, Alex has a lot of lab work experience ranging from fish dissection to genomics methods. Alex has published numerous peer-reviewed papers with many coauthors and values the collaborative nature of his research.
